Murder charges in Rite Aid slaying

A Frankford woman has been charged with murder for the Sept. 19 slaying of a Chester Rite Aid manager during an apparent botched robbery.

Philadelphia and Delaware County authorities captured Rita Pultro, 23, on Sunday at about 12:30 p.m. at a house on Harrison Street near Oakland Street, according to published reports. Investigators reportedly went to one house where they believed Pultro was living and learned that she had fled to the Harrison Street house.

Pultro and David Wiggins, 24, of South Philly, were allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of Jason McClay, 40, of Broomall, inside the Rite Aid at Ninth and Highland streets in Chester. Pultro and Wiggins allegedly entered the store shortly before closing at around 10 p.m. with the intent to commit a robbery. Customers and employees reportedly heard a bang.

Police found McClay with a gunshot wound of the head. He died at the scene.

Investigators identified Wiggins reportedly through fingerprint evidence found at the crime scene and arrested him on Saturday at his home in the Grays Ferry section of South Philly.

Both defendants face capital murder charges and are jailed without bail in Delaware County. A preliminary hearing date has not been set. ••
